SIZING GUIDE
There are no standard sizes for clothing, which is why each brand has their own unique cut and fit. Please do not presume you are the same size between brands for a similar product. If you have a base layer that fits correctly, then use it as a template for these measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE
Chest - Measure the full circumference of your chest just below the armpits
Hem - Measure the full circumference at the top of your hips
Back Drop - Measure from the back of your neck to the base of your spine
Arm Length* - Measure from the end of your shoulder to your wrist
* This measurement is only applicable for long sleeves. Short sleeve versions of these mid layer tops finish just above the elbow, whilst the sleeveless version ends at the shoulder joint.
MID LAYER FIT
Our mid layers will contour to most body shapes when worn thanks to the fabrics in-built stretch. You should wear them close fitting but not so they are restrictive. Wearing baggy or ill fitting mid layers will lead to the loss of heat and a reduction in their wicking properties.
These mid layers are designed to be worn over the top of our base layers but they can be worn directly next to the skin if required. Sizes for both Sub Zero base layers and mid layers are comparable - so if you wear a Factor 1 plus base layer in large, then you should require a Sub Zero Factor 2 mid layer in the same size and vice versa. However, this may not work out for everybody so please consult the size chart below.
Please be aware that these measurements are taken from the garments unstretched, apart from the 'TO FIT CHEST' column, that indicates the range of fit. They are applicable to our long sleeve mid layers in round neck and zip turtle styles, short sleeve round neck style, and sleeveless style top as the bodies are based on the same pattern.
This is also the case for the Factor 2 Plus range - it is a thicker fabric but the construction utilises the same patterns as the Factor 2 mid layer range, hence the sizing is the same.
The table below shows the garment measurements for our Factor 2 Mid layers. There is a tolerance of +/- 5mm.
The table below shows the actual garment weights per size for each of the different styles of Factor 2 mid layer tops we manufacture. There is a tolerance of +/- 20g. R/N refers to round neck.
We ship worldwide using Royal Mail, UPS & DPD. Please use the tables below as a guide for working out the shipping prices to your address. Please be aware that the product weights stated in the listings are for the products themselves, not the final weight when packaging is included. Our system will automatically calculate this and provide a total order weight during checkout.

Washing instructions for Sub Zero Factor 2 mid layers and Factor 2 Plus mid layers are printed on a white silk tag stitched to the back neck. Please follow these instructions carefully as failure to comply with them will make your guarantee void. If you have removed the tag or are unsure of the washing symbol meaning, the full washing instructions can be found below.
- Machine wash or hand wash in water not exceeding 40°C or 105°F
- You can use a mild washing detergent but ideally you want to use a mid layer specific washing treatment
- Wash dark colours separately, do not bleach, do not use fabric conditioners
- These mid layers can be spun dry in a washing machine
- Do not tumble dry. These mid layers will quickly dry on a line or airer as they retain very little water once spun/rung out.
- Do not dry clean
- Regular ironing may be performed at a low setting (110°C, 230°F) only, but we advise against it.
Due to the construction of the Factor 2 and Factor 2 Plus fabric, garments may be susceptible to pilling on areas that witness excess rubbing - inside thighs, armpits etc. It may also occur if Velcro or unguarded zips come in to contact with the fabric. Pilling is the formation of small lint beads caused by the rubbing of the fabric by external pressure. They do not affect the performance of the garment. Please do not remove these with a lint remover if possible as they protect the fabric from further pilling.
GENERAL WASHING TIPS
When you go to wash any garment with a zip, ensure it is done up fully otherwise the exposed teeth may cause harm in the wash cycle. The same can be said for garments containing Velcro. Your best course of action would be to wash these garments either by hand or on their own in a washing machine.
With the advancement in detergent technology, you very rarely need to wash any garments these days above 30°C. It is better to use a specific anti-bacterial wash-in treatment rather than increasing the temperature.
A lot of Sub zero products, especially the base layers and mid layers, can be ironed on a low temperature setting. We would advise against this as the heat settings on irons are not always reliable. In any case, the stretch properties of synthetics helps reduce creases in the wash and if there are any afterwards, they often drop out when worn.
Like most synthetics, Sub Zero fabrics will melt or burn if exposed to flame or direct heat. They are not flame resistant; do not use them near ANY direct source of heat or flame. This includes some of our merino wool products that contain a small percentage of synthetic yarn.

Factor 2 Mens Short Sleeve Mid Layer Tops insulate the body without bulking out the arms or restricting their movement.
Manufactured from soft virgin polyester, this single sided micro fleece has a hydrophilic treatment added to it during the finishing process to aide moisture control and decrease drying times. The brushed inner face traps warm air from your body, insulating it from loss to the cold outdoors, whilst the smooth outer layer enables hinder free additions of extra layers. The inclusion in to the fabric of Spandex provides extra stretch, allowing these mid layers to contour to your bodies shape without being restrictive, either when worn next to the skin, or over the top of base layers.
The low profile round neck has been designed to stretch when placed over your head, ensuring it is not prominent when worn under clothing. Our renowned long body lengths, in combination with a drop back, prevent any cold spots on the lower back during activity or when sitting down. Set-in short sleeves and contoured body panels provide a tailored fit that increases wicking and thermal efficiency.
These Sub Zero mid layer tops are suitable for all cold weather winter activities including mountaineering, polar expeditions, skiing and canoeing, but are also at home all year round underneath motorbike leathers. They are ideal to pair with Sub Zero base layers when you want extra warmth without extra bulk on the lower arms.
