Factor 1 Base Layer

Totally dry

The factor 1 base layer is designed to maintain a warm and dry micro-climate next to the skin by the totally effective removal of perspiration while retaining body heat in cool to cold conditions.

Each fibre is impregnated with a durable hydrophillic water loving finish which quickly wicks away moisture then 'flashes' it quickly across the outer surface to either evaporate or be picked up by the Factor 2 mid-layer.

Factor 1's main objective is to keep you warm and dry, free from the harmful effects of 'sweat chill'.

Factor 1 is made from our soft rib fabric knitted from polyamide fibres. Superior and lighter than polyester based fabrics, polyamide is much, much more effective and had 100% built in stretch to get a very close fit for most body shapes.

Each year, our Factor 1 garments are put through their paces during the world's most famous boat race, the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race.

Throughout the training year, Sub Zero is worn by both boat crews. Factor 1 keeps them dry when working hard, Factor 2 and 3 keeps them warm during training.

In comparison tests, Factor 1 garments achieved a TOG rating of 0.42 making them one of the warmest base layers available.

The fabric is 20% lighter than polyester yet has a UV protection factor (SPF) of over 35.
